Abstract Expressions such as "knowledge society" and "information society" are frequently used nowadays. These expressions, however, are not univocal. They can be understood in different ways. Facing this equivocity -which can lead to great confusion about our communities-, I believe that Heidegger's meditation on the technological age can help us clarify concepts related to these expressions. In this context, I also propose that what Ortega asserts about the "Press" -understanding this word in the broadest sense- and about the University is an important complement to understand what Heidegger points out about what he calls "information ", essential characteristic of the technological era. I will refer, then, to what Heidegger conceives as an era of modern technology and to what Ortega conceives as spiritual power -one of them is the "Press"; the other one, the University-, taking into account some very appropriate considerations of Hadrien France-Lanord, who compares journalistic information to philosophical thought. Finally, I will briefly refer to the educational phenomenon, which I have previously explained from Heidegger 's perspective.

Palabras llave : Knowledge society,; information,; technological era,; spiritual power,; Heidegger,; Ortega y Gasset.
