    Abstract

SOUX, María Luisa. De la América bárbara a la Patria ilustrada: Alegorías de América, la igualdad y el mito del buen salvaje. Estudios Bolivianos [online]. 2013, n.19, pp. 95-118. ISSN 2078-0362.

From the analysis of the allegories about America and the Mother Country, this article analyzes the way it was changing the imagery of America, both in Europe and in our continent, from the Baroque period of the seventeenth century to the Republican and illustrated the nineteenth century. From the image of a barbarous Latin, symbol of otherness, to allegories of the new republics, as representations of the Fatherland, the pictures will show the complexity of official and popular imagination of America.

Keywords : Allegory; barbarism; America; Patria; imaginary.
