Objective.- To determine the prevalence of nicotine dependence and impaired lung function in smokers assets Polyclinic April 9 of the National Health Fund of the city of La Paz.   Methods.- Observational, descriptive, transversal.   Place of study: April 9 Policlínica of the National Health Fund. Universe: 1874 people attended consultation medicine in the second half of 2008 the management. Sample: Probability, 77 people. Instruments of data collection: structured sociodemographic data, Fagerström Questionnaire. [3]   Results.- Active smokers dependent on nicotine just 39 (51%), moderately dependent 24 (31%), highly dependent 14 (18%), mild obstructive pattern on spirometry 16 (21%), severe obstruction 18 (23%) normal 4 (5%), mainly moderate obstructive pattern 39 (51%).  Nicotine dependence according to degree of impaired lung function is greater prevalence of moderate obstructive pattern in active smokers with mild to moderate dependence with a frequency of 18% and 14% respectively.   Conclusions.- The incidence of mild to nicotine dependence is higher in active smokers and impaired lung function with moderate obstructive pattern is higher in the groups with mild and moderate dependency.
