    Resumen

BARRIOS¹, Iván et al. Antidepressant-like Effect of Hidroalcoholic Extract of Aloysia citriodora (Paraguayan Kedron) Using Tail Suspension Test in Swiss Albino Mice.. SCIENTIFICA [online]. 2016, vol.14, n.1, pp. 9-12. ISSN 1813-0054.

Depression is one of the most frequent and disabling health problems. It should be distinguished from sadness which is a universal human response to frustration, disappointment or other adversities. Depression affects the emotional, cognitive, behavioral and somatic life of the person. The Aloysia citriodora, known as Paraguayan Kedron is an aromatic shrub; It has been shown to have antispasmodic, sedative, antibacterial, antigenotoxic and antioxidant actions. Paraguayan Kedron is not used as an antidepressant, although there are reports in the field of studies on "Naturopathic Medicine" that claim they have such an antidepressive-like effect. It is an experimental, comparative study carried out in parallel in adult male Swiss albino mice. Animals treated with Aloysia citriodora 600 mg / kg had lower immobility time in the tail suspension test with close result. We conclude that the Paraguayan Kedron may be useful for treating depression.
